Minna institute of technology and innovation (MITI)

The Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation was established in 1977 as Works Training School (WTS) under the State Ministry of Works and charged with the responsibility to train craftsmen, technicians and conducting of trade tests in various cadre (Electrical, Mechanical, Mason, Building, Plumbing, Motor Mechanic e.t.c). It was transferred to the Ministry of Tertiary Education and then upgraded on 19th December 2013 into an Innovation Institute, called Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation. This is in line with the current policy and mandate of the Federal Government. The Innovation Institutes are to be readily responsive to the demands of the economy and serve as catalysts in the achievement of the Nigerian 2020 vision of becoming one of the twenty largest economies in the world. The innovation institutes are designed to provide an alternative route to higher education for competency based-skills in technological or professional education and training to equip the youth as well as working adults’ skills and knowledge to meet the increasing demand for skilled manpower in the various sectors of the nation’s economy. Its programmes are largely regulated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

With the institute’s new status, the nomenclature of the principal was changed to Provost and that of the Administrative Secretary to Registrar. Other Principal officers are the Bursar and Librarian. Hajiya Nana Bala Ibrahim, who has been the Principal of the School since 2011 became the Pioneer Ag. Provost in year 2013. On the 16th October, 2015. His Excellency (Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello) has confirmed her as the substantive provost of the Institute.

The Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation (MITI) is located on a vast expanse of land with adequate space for future expansion and development. The Institute is presently under the supervision of the State’s Ministry of Tertiary Education. Furthermore, the Institute has secured the bill establishing its, signed under the leadership of The Chief servant Dr Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu administration on 28th of May, 2015.

Thereafter, on the 21st December, 2016, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has given the approval to operate as Innovation Enterprise Institute and Vocational Enterprise Institute (VEI) to run Vocational and Entrepreneurship skills related courses.
